The Last of the Hippies

Penny Rimbaud

Smelling notes by Milly Coser

Fresh tobacco. Reminds me of opening a new packet of cigarettes. Smell gets more intense with time. There’s also something very clean and clinical about the smell. It’s been a long time since I smoked but this takes me back there. A sense of anticipation as the foil is removed from the box and the smell pours out. I can’t help but think of my teenage years. Socialism. Idealism. The desire for change. Lust for reform without understanding. Ticking the box of stereotypical art student in the 1990s.
